On Tuesday 12 January 2016, the first Observation run of the Advanced LIGO detectors has ended. This was about 4 months of keeping the LIGO interferometers running 24/7.

With data coming in and running final calibrations, analyses of the data is ongoing. There will be a 6 months period in which various improvements to the interferometers are made, to further improve the sensitivity, in particular at the lower frequencies.

The LIGO detectors have undergone a major upgrade during the advanced LIGO project, during which ACIGA members have contributed in key areas, supported by the Australian Research Council
